A tasty way to tackle waste.

Manchester City Football Club has come up with an innovative way to deal with coffee cup waste: eating it. The club is trialing edible coffee cups made from leak-proof wafer.

The cups are made by Scottish company BioBite from a hardy wafer (biscuit) that is doesn't leak for up to 12 hours after being exposed to hot liquid. The wafer also stays crisp for up to 45 minutes meaning you can slowly sip your coffee before enjoying a crunchy dessert.

The cups will be available to football fans for the club's 2021/22 season. The venue will also go plastic free with paper beer cups collected for recycling after use and the option of composting the wafer cups for those who don't wish to eat them.

With 2.5 billion coffee cups used in the UK every year, the cups could provide a delicious solution to a big waste problem.
