Carbon Neutral

Planet Ark is proudly certified Carbon Neutral according to the national Climate Active Standard. As one of Australia’s most trusted environmental organisations, we understand the importance of leading by example. We endeavour to minimise our impact upon the planet by purchasing renewable energy and reducing our consumption and waste. However, despite our best efforts we are still responsible for generating greenhouse gas emissions from our business activities. To address this, we limit our environmental impact by calculating our carbon footprint and purchasing carbon offsets of an equivalent value. This is especially important as we grow as an organisation and develop operations such as Planet Ark Power and the Australian Circular Economy Hub. 

Purchasing carbon offsets allows us to invest in important projects locally and overseas that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Planet Ark staff choose these projects through an annual democratic vote. 

Planet Ark has been certified carbon neutral since 2017. Since then, we have purchased carbon offsets from projects that reflect our organisation’s passions. 

This year Planet Ark are supporting three inspiring projects to offset our emissions: 

Aboriginal Carbon Foundation, Australia

The Aboriginal Carbon Foundation (AbCF) specialise in carbon projects, advice and services to help grow the carbon farming sector across Australia and internationally. The AbCF connects Aboriginal communities who supply carbon credits, with organisations seeking to offset their carbon pollution, and provides training for Indigenous rangers.

The Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve, Indonesia

Rimba Raya, located in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, supports local villages providing education and employment, along with protecting one of the most highly endangered ecosystems in the world. Among its many conservation initiatives, Rimba Raya creates a barrier between encroaching palm oil plantations and one of the last groups of wild orangutans in Tanjung Puting National Park.  

The Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, Cambodia

Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary (KSWS) is home to more than 950 wild species, including 75 globally threatened species. It is also the ancestral home of the indigenous Bunong people, whose unique culture and beliefs are inseparable from the forest in which they live. KSWS plays a vital role in the preservation of the region’s important and vulnerable wildlife, including the world’s largest populations of endemic primates and many other species.
