Introducing Recycling Victoria as a new support network for those within the state’s waste and resource recovery sector will help ensure the security of the sector as it implements the new Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) and other waste solutions.
Working in conjunction with councils, industry, regional communities, and Traditional Owners, Recycling Victoria will focus on state-wide stewardship, planning, regulatory and market oversight functions. The overall function will be to create a better and more reliable waste and recycling system to build community confidence and encourage innovation and investment.
The new body will work closely with partner agencies such as Sustainability Victoria and the Environment Protection Authority. However, Recycling Victoria will have a strong focus on regional communities and how they manage their waste and recycling, as well as the state-wide transition to a four-bin system for each household.
TheVictorian Government expects its investment in the waste and recycling sector to boost the state’s economy by $6.7 billion by 2030 and create nearly 4,000 jobs, helping divert 80 per cent of all waste from landfill.
