1 March: Applications close for The Seedling Bank grants
Kick off the year by exploring funding opportunities! The Seedling Bank offers grants to help schools and community groups plant more trees and enhance local green spaces. If you’ve been thinking about starting a tree-planting project or need support for your community’s green initiatives, now’s the time to apply. You just need to estimate how many trees, shrubs and grasses you will need, how much funding and some information about your project. Be sure to submit your application before 1 March.
23 March: Celebrate National Eucalypt Day
Pack your bags and join Eucalyptus Australia on an adventure around Australia to explore the landscapes framed by the iconic gum tree. From the majestic Mountain Ash to the rainbow-barked snow gums, it’s a great time to celebrate this Australian icon and the stunning environments it defines.
6 - 13 July: NAIDOC Week
This year’s National National NAIDOC Week marks 50 years of the week-long celebrations. The theme, The Next Generation: Strength Vision & Legacy, celebrates achievements of the past and the bright future ahead. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures. Support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by participating in activities and events held across the country.
25 July: Schools Tree Day
Schools Tree Day is the perfect opportunity for students and teachers to come together and give back to the environment. Encourage your school to take part in this national initiative by organising a tree-planting day. Not only will it help boost biodiversity and clean the air, but it will also teach the next generation the importance of caring for our planet. Register your school’s event on the National Tree Day website and join thousands of other schools in planting trees for a better tomorrow.
27 July: National Tree Day
National Tree Day is the highlight of the year for tree lovers, and it’s an occasion to come together as a community and take meaningful action. Whether you’re planting a tree in your garden, joining a local event, or organising a community tree-planting event, this is your moment to make a difference. So far, over 28 million trees have been planted for National Tree Day, but we still need more trees than ever to be planted in the race against climate change and native species extinction. Be sure to register your National Tree Day event on the official website to be a part of the nationwide movement. Together, we can help regenerate habitats, reduce carbon footprints, and create lasting green spaces.
4 - 10 August: Landcare Week
Landcare Week is a celebration of those working to restore and protect Australia’s unique landscapes. Whether it’s working with local Landcare groups or organising your own community event, this week offers an opportunity to contribute to the health of our soils, waterways and forests. Get your hands in the dirt and plant native trees that support local wildlife and help restore natural ecosystems. Find your local Landcare website to see planting events being run throughout the year.
7 December: Tropical Tree Day
As the year winds down, Tropical Tree Day provides the perfect opportunity to focus on preserving and planting trees in tropical regions. If you’re in a tropical area or have a passion for rainforests, this day is for you. Join a local event or organise your own tree-planting project to help protect and restore tropical habitats. Our very own Daintree Rainforest is the oldest tropical rainforest in the world at 180 million years old. Protecting environments like this not only safeguards our past but also protects our future.
By embracing these dates and taking part in tree-planting activities throughout the year, you’ll be playing a vital role in supporting our environment, wildlife and future generations. Don’t forget to register your events on the National Tree Day website and be sure to encourage others to get involved. Together, we can help ensure our world stays lush, green, and full of life for many years to come.
