Nominations are open to either individuals or groups across the areas of business and industry, community, government, and research and education. To be eligible, nominations should be initiatives that focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation and resilience, or building awareness around sustainability.  Held every two years, the awards are a great opportunity to provide examples of leadership and innovation in sustainability within the community, while also raising awareness about the practical steps being taken in response to climate change.  Below are some guidelines for each category that may classify an individual or group for nomination. For further information about the entry criteria and eligibility, refer to the 2022 SA Climate Leaders Awards Guidelines.  

• Business and industry category: 

A company or individual that is changing the face of ‘business as usual’, taking a lead or demonstrating best practice approaches to climate change risk management, environmental sustainability, emissions reductions or other climate smart solutions. 

• Research and education category: 

Delivering research, programs, or tools to raise awareness around and to support vulnerable communities to build resilience to climate change. 

• Community category: 

A community group or individual that has implemented a program to educate about climate change and sustainability and inspire hands-on action to foster community connection with the natural environment. 

• Government category: 

A government, local council, or representative of a local council that has delivered a project to enable action or build awareness in the community about climate change preparedness, energy use or energy efficiency, or the opportunities of climate change action. Previous winners from 2020 include: 

• Tom Linnell for his work as a climate and sustainability educator in the state’s South-East.  

• and, the City of Onkaparinga for its Greening Onkaparinga project AGIG for the development of Australia’s largest green hydrogen project, Hydrogen Park SA. 

 Entries close on 19 August 2022 and winners will be announced at an event later in 2022.
