'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark'
'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' is a hugely successful e-waste (electronic waste) recovery and recycling program. In eight years of operation, over 15 million printer cartridges have been collected.
The cartridges dropped into a ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' box can end up in so many places. The steel in a fridge, the eWood® in a park bench, the plastic in a ruler and the ink in a roller ball pen could have come froma printer cartridge in a previous life. Some of the laser cartridges are returned to their original maker to be re-manufactured back into cartridges.
The ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program is an example of an effective extended producer responsibility program. The cost of collecting, transporting, and recycling the cartridges, as well as promoting the program, is paid for by the participating equipment manufacturers - Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, Konica Minolta, Kyocera and Lexmark.
