As of the 1 March new rules came into effect for scrap metal dealers in NSW, under the NSW Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016, aimed at addressing property crime like copper theft and disposal of stolen cars.  If these changes affect your listing on BusinessRecycling, now’s a good time update your information.

The new Act prohibits paying cash for scrap metal and will be regulated by the NSW Police Force. Only car bodies or parts that a visible identification number can be accepted. Appropriate records need to be kept by scrap metal dealers who will need to register with the Police as well.

The NSW Police has factsheets relating to who needs to register, how to do so, record keeping and other requirements.

Update Your Listings

Make sure you update your listings on BusinessRecycling if this affects the materials you can accept for recycling.
