The 12 Do's of Christmas
Author: Sara McGregor
Whether it’s Christmas on a budget or a Christmas of splurging, Planet Ark’s 12 Do’s of Christmas will help Australians reduce their environmental impact this festive season while still celebrating the festive season with friends and family.
The 12 Do’s of Christmas is available on our popular RecyclingNearYou.com.au website. The resource includes simple tips about reducing waste, saving money and recycling properly over the holiday period.
Waste is one of the biggest environmental issues at Christmas, as this time of celebration is traditionally accompanied by seasonal increases in eating, drinking and spending. The average Australian household now spends $204 on groceries each week, so families are literally wasting money when they throw food away.
Reducing waste begins with planning your grocery list, buying presents that will be used and will last and then recycling whatever waste is left over. The 12 Do’s of Christmas will help you get started.
When you’ve reduced all you can, then you can recycle the waste that’s left over. RecyclingNearYou lists drop off and collection locations for items including e-waste like batteries and mobile phones, as well as information on how to recycle leftovers and food scraps, foil trays, aluminium cans, custard cartons, Christmas trees, cards and wrapping paper.
