Make the Naturale choice at the supermarket
Author: Claire Bell
Buying products that contain recycled content is a positive environmental action Planet Ark keenly promotes. Endorsing Naturale tissue products is one way we can help consumers make an informed choice at the supermarket.
Planet Ark endorses products that have a lower impact on the environment than the mainstream alternatives. In this case, we work with ABC Tissue, the maker of Naturale Toilet Tissue, to encourage people to use recycled tissue products because it helps reduce the demand for timber resources, uses less energy and water, reduces landfill and generates fewer greenhouse gases.
It’s not only important to recycle but also to close the recycling loop by buying back products that are made with recycled content. By buying products made with recycled materials you’re supporting the local recycling industry. In the case of Naturale you’re also supporting an Australian made product that is FSC certified, made at a recycling plant in Brisbane.
We’re often asked why the Naturale products are wrapped in plastic and not paper. Paper products like toilet tissue are highly susceptible to moisture damage during transport and in store. Moisture can impact the product through direct contact (like a spill) or absorption directly from the air or if in contact with wet items in a trolley. The plastic wrap prevents water, chemicals or other liquids from damaging the product. It’s not a perfect solution but is the best option to avoid damaged products ending up in landfill.
The good news is that the outer wrapping can be recycled vis REDCycle bins at Coles and Woolworths.
