Introducing our new partner Planet Protector Packaging
Author: Nell MacDonald
Planet Ark is proud to announce we have joined forces with Planet Protector Packaging, the distributor of the multi-award winning sustainable packaging innovation Woolcool.
Woolcool is an insulated packaging range made from waste wool and is ideal for the delivery of products requiring sensitive temperature control, like food, pharmaceuticals, seafood and wine.
This partnership was initiated in response to the rise in home delivery services using unsustainable plastic packaging like Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). There are very limited recycling options for EPS with less than 30% recycled nationally, meaning it ends up in landfill, pollutes waterways and harms wildlife.
For a long time, there was no real, viable alternative to using EPS, but Australian businesses can now choose more sustainable alternatives like Woolcool to help reduce their environmental impact.
The wool is biodegradable, recyclable, compostable and at the end of life the product can be returned to the manufacturers for recycling. Woolcool can also be packed flat for storage and shipment which can reduce transport costs.
Thermal performance testing shows that Woolcool maintains contents at their required temperature for longer than conventional materials. Woolcool also provides a greater yield to wool growers and is transforming the wool industry by providing farmers with another outlet for the waste wool product.
The product has also recently received international recognition as an example of sustainable product innovation, winning an array of WorldStar Packaging Awards across Transit, Food, Packaging Materials and Components categories, as well as a Bronze Award in the prestigious Packaging that Saves Food Award.
Woolcool now even now carries the Queen’s endorsement, having won the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Innovation 2018 announced in London on 21st April.
What’s not to love?
We look forward to working with Planet Protector Packaging and helping Australian businesses transition away from unsustainable packaging. If you would like to remove EPS from your business or supply chain, please get in contact.
