National Recycling Week (7-13 November) is a great time to get involved in a range of events and activities that highlight the environmental benefits of re-use and recycling programs. A focus for this year is the new Tetra Pak Schools Recycle Right Challenge. If you’re a teacher, P&C member or parent read on to find out how to get involved.

The Tetra Pak Schools Recycle Right Challenge brings together a wide range of recycling-themed activities, lesson plans, supporting resources, and event ideas that have been developed specifically for Australian schools. Each resource has been developed to enable learning-by-doing, and learning by having fun!

The inaugural Schools Recycle Right Challenge will run over a six-week period from Monday 17 October to Friday 25 November. Teachers, P&C members and parents are encouraged to get their schools involved. Teachers can register their school while parents can encourage their kids’ school to join up.

Throughout the six-week Challenge period and National Recycling Week, Planet Ark will be promoting recycling throughout the country in partnership with councils, businesses, communities, and the media.

Schools from across the country will be involved in one or more recycling-themed lessons, activities or events during the Challenge period.

By registering to participate in the Schools Recycle Right Challenge, schools will gain access to a wide range of ready-to-use materials and resources, a competition just for schools, as well as early registration incentives. Many of the resources are only available to registered schools - and it's completely free. Activity coordinators will also receive updates, information and support materials to help organise events, including a Getting Started Guide.

Visit the Schools Recycle Right Challenge web site to find out more.

Other events and initiatives throughout National Recycling Week include The Big Aussie Swap and the Friday File Fling. Host your own event or join one held by your local council, school or community group to reduce, re-use and recycle!
