Pushing for a waste-free Australia

BINGO Industries has been a loyal and committed partner of Planet Ark since 2011.
Through this exclusive partnership, we're working together to increase resource recovery, recycling and responsible waste management in Australia, especially in the construction and demolition (C&D) and commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors.
As part of its deep commitment to positive environmental action, BINGO has worked closely with Planet Ark to improve the environmental impact of its business operations, including installing renewable energy through rooftop solar on several recycling facilities.
Planet Ark is working with BINGO Industries to encourage businesses and industries to make environmentally responsible choices with their waste and choice of recycled materials on future projects.
BINGO is a leader in the recycling industry. Across 15 recycling centres in NSW and Victoria, BINGO recovers an average of 77% of the waste it collects (third party verified) – an industry leading resource recovery rate.
Some of these materials are recycled into its Eco Product range of building and landscaping materials such as road base, mulch and aggregate. Often these products are used by the companies and industries that originally generated the waste, thus closing the recycling loop by purchasing back their own waste in a renewed and usable form – an excellent example of circular economy thinking.
In 2020, BINGO will open a new, world-leading materials processing centre (MPC2) at its Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park in Western Sydney. This exciting asset is the first stage of the wider Ecology Park development which will see a one-of-a-kind recycling precinct capable of processing and recovering all waste types. When fully operational, the new materials processing centre will enable BINGO to expand its waste processing capabilities, increase recovery rates and produce larger volumes of recycled products. The site already has the highest recovery rate of any of BINGO’s recycling centres, reaching an 85% recovery rate in its last audit.
BINGO is in the process of transitioning its recycling centres to renewable energy with rooftop solar, which will drastically reduce BINGO’s carbon footprint.
360kW of solar power have already been installed on the Mortdale and Auburn recycling facilities. These large-scale rooftop solar systems were installed by Planet Ark’s renewable energy partner and sister organisation, Planet Ark Power.
Over the lifespan of the solar panels across both sites, BINGO will save the equivalent of 8,868 tonnes of C02 emissions from entering the atmosphere. That is the equivalent of planting 1,267 trees or taking 3,693 cars off the road for a whole year!
Planet Ark collaborated with BINGO to create a waste education program, which takes more than 1,500 local school students each year on a free excursion to the Auburn Recycling Centre in Western Sydney – one of the most advanced and innovative recycling centres in the southern hemisphere. The program gives students the opportunity to learn about recycling and waste management processes through hands-on activities. It also encourages them to change the way they look at the world of waste, including the waste they generate in their own homes.
Interested schools can enquire about the program through BINGO.
BINGO is a sponsor of Planet Ark’s Australian Circular Economy Hub – Australia’s leading platform to accelerate our transition to a circular economy. BINGO’s services, products and practices are examples of why BINGO Industries is a leader in the circular economy in Australia.
