Green Resolutions

Week 5: I resolve to become a champion for sustainability by helping my child's school, or my workplace, to become more sustainable.

Date: 03-Feb-09

It's easy to sit and ask why someone isn't doing something to help make your local school or workplace more sustainable - but what might be needed is for someone just like you to step up and help lead the charge.

Look into your State or Territory's Sustainable Schools initiative at www.environment.gov.au/education/aussi/ and work with teachers and other parents to help make sustainable changes at your local school. You could organize a tree planting day (treeday.planetark.org), set up a recycling system, have a waste-free lunch day or start a vegetable garden. It's a great way to empower and educate our future generation of decision makers, and it's a fun project that you and your kids can work on together.

At work, speak to the key person in your organisation about the changes that might be made to help reduce the company's environmental footprint. There are plenty of big and small steps organisations can take to become more sustainable, many of which can save money and provide opportunities for community involvement and good will.

Todae can provide you, your school or business with a range of products designed with sustainability in mind from designer recycled stationery to bokashi bins. Visit www.todae.com.au to learn more.

Commitment Statement

I will become a champion for sustainability by helping my child's school, or my workplace, to become more sustainable.
