Week 42: I resolve to grow some of my own food to become more self-sufficient and reconnect with nature.
Date: 19-Oct-09
Everyone can have a go at growing their own food - whether in a large patch of land or in a few small window or planter boxes. It’s a great way to help the environment by reducing food miles and growing organically.
Growing my own herbs, fruit and vegetables can be a rewarding and relaxing experience. I can start with something easy like tomatoes, carrots, rocket, rosemary, parsley, mint, basil or strawberries. To get started and find out more on how growing my own food can help the environment, I can visit Sustainable Gardening Australia at www.sgaonline.org.au/growyourown.html.
Community gardens can also be a great option and they are growing in popularity as more people take an interest in growing their own food. I can check with my local council to find my nearest community garden.
Commitment Statement
