Week 36: I resolve to cut down paper, not trees, by switching from paper-based to online communications for my financial correspondence wherever possible.
Date: 08-Sep-09
Australians consume 4.4 million tonnes of paper and paper products each year – that’s 200kg each! The production, printing and distribution of paper-based communications causes environmental impacts on tree, water and energy supplies, as well as generating solid waste and greenhouse gases.
I can reduce these environmental impacts by switching from paper–based to electronic communications wherever possible.
Planet Ark estimate that each tonne of paper removed from commercial correspondence saves:
- 18 trees
- 67,500 litres of water
- 3,300 kgs of greenhouse gases
- 9,500 kWh of power
To find out more I can check the ‘PaperCutz 4 Planet Ark’ website. If I am a customer of Colonial First State, I can switch over to paper-free investing straightaway by visiting: www.colonialfirststate.com.au/paperfree. I can also view and pay my bills online with BPAY View Online.
Commitment Statement
