Week 18: I resolve to find ways to reduce the amount of food waste I throw into the garbage.
Date: 06-May-09
The Waste Management Association of Australia estimates that 60% of the rubbish Australians put in our mixed-waste garbage bin could be put to better use in the garden as compost or mulch, or used in agriculture to improve soil quality.
I can celebrate International Composting Awareness Week this week by investing in a good quality compost bin, worm farm or bokashi bucket (www.bokashi.com.au) so that my nutrient-rich food scraps don't go to waste. I can buy these from local garden centres, hardware stores, some local councils, eco-retailers or even make one from scratch. To find out more I can visit www.compostweek.com.au.
Commitment Statement
I will find ways to reduce the amount of food waste I throw into the garbage, and help return nutrients to the soil through composting.
This week's Green Resolution is proudly supported by Bokashi. Visit www.bokashi.com.au for more
