Week 11: I resolve to take one less flight this year to reduce my individual carbon emissions. If I have to fly, I resolve to offset my carbon emissions.
Date: 18-Mar-09
Flying Sydney to Melbourne return emits the equivalent of half a tonne of carbon dioxide per passenger. By reducing my flying time I can reduce my contribution to the greenhouse gases that are slowly warming our planet.
If I have to fly I will offset these carbon emissions through programs offered by groups like Climate Friendly and www.carbonneutral.com.au. I will also check whether my airline offers a carbon offset to purchase with my ticket.
I will find out how these offset funds are invested if I can – as the most immediate investments are directed towards renewable energy generation, like wind farms and solar farms.
Commitment Statement
I will take one less flight this year to reduce my individual carbon emissions. If I have to fly, I will offset my carbon emissions.
