Queensland will see a number of fashion shows with a twist this National Recycling Week, with numerous events celebrating recycled fashion this week and next.

Brisbane’s King George Square will play host to a unique fashion show this National Recycling Week, in which all the clothing will be made from recycled materials.  The Recreate Twilight Fashion Show and Twilight Market is a National Recycling Week institution in Queensland, held this year from 4 – 8pm on Friday November 16. It features artisan wares, food stalls and of course a recycled fashion show featuring the work of Brisbane fashion designers.  Brisbane City Council Field Services Chairman Cr Vicki Howard said the city’s centre would host Brisbane’s best designers, inspiring the community to further embrace sustainability in their homes and wardrobes for a cleaner, greener city.  “Brisbane’s most talented fashion designers will come together for Recreate to showcase world-class couture made from recycled and disused materials such as paper, plastic, rubber, fabrics and wire.

“Reducing waste and recycling is something Brisbane residents are passionate about, with more than 1.4 million tonnes of materials recycled over the past 25 years and Recreate is a clever and creative way to get people thinking about recycling.”

Another Brisbane City Council event, the WornOUT exhibition, will also be returning this year on November 24. WornOUT is organised by Reverse Garbage Queensland in order to show the ease of refashioning clothing and textiles for new life and how beautiful these pieces can be.

The event is free, open to the public and will feature runway showcases for Refashion, Wearable Art and Cosplay followed by a series of creative workshops on repurposing and refashioning.
