Planet Ark is proud to announce we've joined forces with the Australian Orangutan Project and the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation Australia, as project partners in our Palm Oil Free campaign. This means for every Aware laundry product sold between October 2010 and March 2011, 10 cents will go to Planet Ark to assist these two great organizations and their work on the ground in Borneo and Sumatra.

The Australian Orangutan Project (AOP)

Planet Ark will be assisting The Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) to continue their work with a team of "Wildlife Wardens" in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, an area known for it's remarkable wildlife diversity, especially it's unique orangutan population. These wildlife wardens are members of the local community that have been trained to defend, care for and manage this protected forest and its inhabitants. With growing human activities surrounding the sanctuary, both local communities and extensive palm oil plantations, the need for protection is greater than ever.

The Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation

The Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation focuses on three key areas in their work with Orangutans:

1. Orangutan Orphanage - Nyaru Mentang is the largest orphanage in the world and is currently home to over 600 Orangutans who have been orphaned, left permanently scarred or injured. Excitingly the first planned release in over eight years is to occur in 2011.

2. Orangutan Adoptions - Through the adoption program orangutans are provided with food and care plus a chance to go to school and learn through human carers what it means to be an Orangutan.

3. Land Protection and Conservation - A big part of the work BOS does is with the land and local communities. Samboja Lestari is located in East Kalimantan and was once a barren wasteland but has been brought back to life and now is a lush, reforested sanctuary - offering life for not only Orangutans but for the local community as well.

How You Can Help

You can support these great projects by being aware and buying Aware. For every Aware laundry product (the first palm oil free laundry product available in major supermarkets) sold between October 2010 and March 2011, 10 cents will go to Planet Ark to assist our project partners.
