For Planet Ark's National Recycling Week this year, organisations around the country participated in the Friday File Fling. From corporates to small businesses, schools to sports clubs, unused paper was flung back into the recycle cycle whilst office's were decluttered and environmental awareness amongst employees improved.
Based on the reported results, it is estimated around 14 tonnes of old files were recycled or 250 wheelie bins (240L). This equates to saving:
- enough energy to power a CFL bulb for 502,563 hours, or over 57 years,
- over 5,088 L of water,
- over 9 tonnes of carbon emissions, and
- over 60,500 L of landfill space!
Since the Friday File Fling began, Planet Ark has had 565 business registrations with more than 143 tonnes of paper recycled. That equates to saving 96 tonnes of carbon emissions or over 1.9 million CO2-filled black balloons!
So a big congratulations to the 50+ organisations and 3,600 plus people who participated this year! Check out some of the photos.
And don't forget to make sure you close the recycling loop by switching to the best environmental paper, Planet Ark's 100% Australian recycled paper.
