City of Sydney and Planet Ark Partners for NYE 08
Planet Ark, named the charity partner for 2008 Sydney New Year's Eve, is urging people to take simple and easy steps to help the environment.
Sydneysiders are being encouraged to make 2009 a year for the planet by committing to a Green Resolution with Planet Ark.
"Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something" says Planet Ark CEO Sean Barrett.
"Committing to a Green Resolution with Planet Ark is the easiest way to give the environment a Happy New Year and make a real difference. We all share this responsibility."
"We're very excited that Planet Ark is the 2008 Sydney New Year's Eve chosen charity," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP
"New Year's Eve is a time to look ahead and work together to protect the planet and create a better future. This year, the City asks people to be generous in their support for Sydney New Year's Eve charity partner Planet Ark and the hard work they do."
Planet Ark is asking people to visit the Green Resolutions page at PlanetArk.org and sign up to receive 52 Green Resolutions for 52 weeks of the year. The eco tips and tricks will be emailed weekly and will focus on the environmental benefits of simple actions, with steps on how to achieve them.
Every little bit helps! Recycling just one aluminium can saves enough energy to run a TV set for 3 hours and planting a single tree can result in the absorption of over one tonne of carbon dioxide throughout the life of the tree.
The City is doing its part to keep the streets clean and will recycle at least 80 per cent of the rubbish generated by the New Year's celebrations. In line with Planet Ark's objectives and the City's sustainable environment initiatives, Sydney New Year's Eve will be a green-powered event.
