A fire-fighter works to extinguish fires in a forest in the Siak district of Indonesia's Riau province.
An increasing number of hot spots were discovered in Riau in conjunction with the start of the dry season, an official said on Monday.
Indonesia's weather agency BMG has said the country may experience more severe forest fires this year because of an extended dry season, raising the prospect of smoke being blown across to neighbouring countries.
