Life Is Better with Trees Schools Competition
Planet Ark’s Life is Better with Trees Schools Competition is being run as part of Schools Tree Day 2011. The competition encourages students from Kindergarten to Year 10 to learn about all the good things that trees provide and tap into their creativity to demonstrate what they’ve learnt.
There are four competition categories – Stage 1 (K-Yr 2), Stage 2 (Yrs 3-4), Stage 3 (Yrs 5-6) and Stage 4/5 (Yrs 7-10). Stages 1 and 2 students are asked to create a poster up to A3 in size and Stages 3 and 4/5 students are required to produce a video, an animation, a digital story or a multimedia production.
All entries need to illustrate the many good things that trees provide. In addition, Stage 4/5 entries should explain the role that trees play in the carbon cycle and how they help combat climate change.
A total of $5000 in prize money has been donated by Planet Ark’s Make It Wood – Do Your World Some Good campaign, which promotes the use of sustainably sourced wood as a solution to climate change. The winning entry in each category will win $700 for their school and there are also prizes for the Runner Up and the Highly Commended entries.
